Understanding the Manufacturing Facility's Power Requirements
Reliable electricity is essential to modern manufacturing operations. Even a relatively short power interruption can disrupt production schedules, interrupt machinery operation and result in costly downtime.
Our client required a dependable standby diesel generator capable of supporting existing production equipment while allowing for potential future expansion.
Following an on-site survey, our technical team assessed the electrical demands of the facility, including CNC machinery, additional electrical equipment and the starting current requirements of the site's air compressor.
The assessment also considered the potential future expansion of the manufacturing operation to six CNC machines.
This detailed approach allowed us to recommend a suitably rated standby power solution rather than simply selecting a generator based on an estimated electrical load.
The Solution: Blackwell B220 Diesel Generator
Following the site assessment, FW Power specified a new Blackwell B220 diesel generator.
The generator offers:
- 200 kVA prime power.
- 220 kVA standby power.
- Suitability for commercial and industrial backup power applications.
- Capacity selected with consideration for the site's machinery and starting loads.
- Integration with an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS).
The addition of an ATS provides automatic transfer functionality in the event of a mains power failure, subject to the final installation configuration.
The selected generator provides a reliable foundation for the facility's backup power requirements.

Generator Delivery, Positioning and Installation
The project was carefully planned to minimise disruption to the client's manufacturing operations.
Our installation team arranged the delivery and positioning of the generator before progressing with the required electrical installation work.
The installation programme covered two consecutive working days, allowing the main preparation activities to take place ahead of the planned electrical changeover.
Project scope
- Initial site survey and electrical load assessment.
- Generator sizing and technical specification.
- Supply of the new Blackwell B220 diesel generator.
- Delivery and on-site generator positioning.
- Provision and integration of an Automatic Transfer Switch.
- Installation and electrical integration.
- Final checks and commissioning as applicable to the completed works.
Particular consideration was given to the facility's manufacturing schedule, with the aim of minimising disruption during the electrical integration. Read more about our generator installation and commissioning service.
