Two FG Wilson P500P2 Generators Prepared for Algeria

From available stock to UK collection: how FW Power adapted two 500 kVA FG Wilson P500P2 generators for a returning customer’s Algeria project.

International projects · Algeria

Two generators from stock, prepared around the customer's project.

FW Power prepared two FG Wilson P500P2 diesel generators for a returning customer's project in Algeria, combining available stock with control-system work, new oil coolers, testing and coordinated UK collection.

The brief evolved as the customer's engineering, procurement and logistics teams refined their requirements. Our team worked through each change, keeping the equipment, preparation scope and collection arrangements aligned.

Building on a trusted supply relationship

The customer had previously purchased generators from FW Power and returned with a requirement for an Algeria project. The initial discussion considered a larger supply package for a site with four generator incomers and a stated maximum load of 1,410 kVA.

During the review, the customer identified two suitable generators within its existing fleet, also previously supplied by FW Power. We adapted the proposal to two additional P500P2 sets. This allowed the customer to retain useful equipment and focus the new purchase on the units actually required.

Working through the technical requirements

Integration with the existing installation was a central part of the discussion. The team clarified the use of ComAp BaseBox paralleling controllers and generator-mounted breakers, including the requirement for a common bus voltage reference from the customer's LV switchgear.

Controller and BaseBox upgrades were included in the preparation scope, with synchronisation programming addressed before collection. This gave the customer's engineering team a clearer basis for planning how the additional generators would work with the existing fleet.

Responding to the customer's operating experience

The customer's team raised concerns based on its experience of oil heat exchangers and filter housings in service. Gavin requested the supporting reports, reviewed the feedback and helped define the work required before the two sets left the UK.

The agreed scope included new oil/water heat exchangers, commonly referred to as oil coolers. The team obtained parts pricing and discussed both fitting the components before shipment and supplying them separately if lead times became an issue. The customer chose to have the oil coolers fitted, while retaining its own in-country plan for the filter housings.

Agreeing that boundary kept the workshop work focused on the customer's priorities and brought the requested cooling work into the UK preparation programme.

Keeping the project moving through parts and paperwork

A project involving several teams needs consistent follow-through. FW Power kept the generators reserved while supplier records and purchase-order details were updated, supplied revised documentation, and made the relevant signatory available for the customer's verification process.

The preparation plan identified parts requirements from ComAp and FG Wilson. When the cooling components were still awaited, our team explained the dependency and provided progress updates. By 7 September, the generators had been load banked and synchronisation programmed. On 2 October, FW Power confirmed that all agreed modifications had been completed.

Adam, Murat, Gavin and John contributed across the sales, technical, quotation and operations discussions, helping the customer's engineering and procurement contacts progress one coordinated package.

Workshop preparation with visible progress

The agreed workshop programme set out a full pre-delivery inspection for each generator, individual load bank testing, and final load bank and synchronisation testing of the system. The progress correspondence confirmed load bank testing and synchronisation programming, followed by completion of the modifications.

The workshop videos show the P500P2 sets in the FW Power yard, including their ComAp controls, engine compartments and acoustic enclosures.

A practical plan for collection and onward transport

The customer's logistics team arranged collection and onward sea freight. FW Power supplied the packing list and commercial invoices, confirmed collection details, and discussed loading requirements before uplift.

Early discussion established that container loading at our premises would require the container to be placed on the ground. The customer then confirmed a practical alternative: collection by truck, with container loading handled offsite by its appointed third party.

The team also responded to questions about drained fuel tanks, residual fuel in the engine system and battery specifications, and offered battery removal to suit the customer's freight arrangements. These discussions supported the freight agent's assessment of the equipment being collected.

What this achieved for the customer

  • A purchase matched to the revised requirement. The final order complemented two generators already in the customer's fleet.
  • Requested modifications completed before collection. The cooling and control-system scope was addressed as part of the UK preparation.
  • Clearer technical coordination. Synchronisation arrangements, operating conditions and the division of workshop work were discussed with the customer's team.
  • Progress through procurement changes. Stock reservation, revised documents and direct communication helped the order move forward.
  • A coordinated handover. Collection requirements and supporting paperwork were brought together with the customer's logistics contacts.

From the first stock enquiry to loading the generators, this project shows how FW Power brings sales, technical preparation and operations together around a customer's requirements. The result was a tailored two-generator package and a completed UK handover for the next stage of the Algeria project.
